Goderich Council Defers a Decision on Proposed Development at the Maitland Valley Golf Course

By Bob Montgomery

A proposed development at the Maitland Valley Golf Course generated a lot of discussion at Monday night's Goderich council meeting.

Mayor Trevor Bazinet says the proposal calls for the re-location of some of the holes on the golf course to accommodate up to sixty-eight mobile homes. Bazinet says in the ten years he's been on council he's never seen the gallery so packed. Several people spoke in favour of the development and maybe even a few more were opposed to the development. Bazinet promised all of them they would be given time to make their case and that took about three hours.

Bazinet says the mobile homes will not be located down on the flood plain but on the upper part of the golf course where the first six holes are. He says those six holes will be tightened to make that part of the course a little more challenging and the three holes on the lower section will remain where they are.

After the presentations at Monday night's meeting council decided to defer a decision until they had more information and see if there was some way they could work with the applicant and the people who spoke against the development. Bazinet says the town now has ninety days to make a decision so that would be by December 27th. He says they do have a meeting scheduled for December the 27th. There are no more public meetings but it will be on their agenda that night for discussion.
